weekend: let's go surfing in VW beetle

weekend

I’ve always longed to own a vintage VW bettle, about you!? Well it has been a busy and tiring week going back & forth between home & Hossegor, while fighting a nasty bug that left me really tired and feverish. For those who follow me on Instagram and stories, nothing I had planned when according to plan but that’s OK. Mila was in Hossegor this week to take part in the surfing French Championships and to cut a long story short, she got 4th place on the podium which makes me hugely proud! I have to say she was disappointed with her second series which wasn’t as good as the first one but given she has only two months of bodyboard under her belt, I think it’s pretty cool and I will need to share with her, a few of my tips to focus on the positive ;-) So this wekeend, will be all about recharging our batteries, eating healthily (that part went out of the window when I got ill) and go for a long …

#Weeklyfashionedit | Cream coat & cashmere jumper

#weekly fashion edit

After fighting a sore throat and the beginning of a flu, I’m finally on the mend and off to Hossegor for a few days to see Mila who is taking part in the bodyboard French championships. Quite a big thing since she has only recently starting bodyboarding. A part of me is super proud and the other part is a bit freaked out. Last time she took part in a competition (her first), she came 4th which was fantastic but the waves were 1.5m high and the ocean was pretty agitated and this week looks like it’s gonna be the same if not worse so will see. Anyway…I had started my board with this navy coat which is very similar to the one I’m wearing here but then, I came across this beautiful cream coat (2) currently in the Mango sale. Cream coats always look very chic and this one is perfect to wear over a pair of freyed jeans or a wool trousers if you want to go for the cream on cream look. Given the weather …

Natural wood & white interior: A Scandinavian home in the countryside

I love a beautiful Scandinavian home and natural wood + white walls is a combo that I find increasingly soothing and attractive. Maybe it is the fact that I spend more time out of the city, surrounded by nature and truth to be told, the first thing I do now in the morning, is (still wearing my PJs) putting my gumboots on to feed our chickens. Maybe, it is the fact that we live 20 minutes from the beach, surf twice a week and get a massive salty injection from the Atlantic Ocean and all its raw, wild beauty. With its high ceilings, white walls, pale wood and natural textured accents, this home exudes all these things that one can imagine in a home by the beach, don’t you think?Located in the south of Sweden, near Malmö (a city I only know from the extremely brilliant crime series The Bridge), this home combines tranquillity, modernity and embodies a very soothing, welcoming feel. Don’t you love houses filled with natural light and big windows where you can …

Taking care of yourself

I was feeling a bit under the weather yesterday. I have been nursing a sore throat since I came back from London and it was also the ‘2-year anniversary’ date since my dad died so I decided to take it easy. Being gentle with myself and learning when it’s time to slow down is something I’ve learnt the hard way these past few years. The biggest warning I received, was when I got hit by depression four years ago. To these days, I’m hugely grateful it had happened to me and that was also, able to recover from it and move on. Nowadays, I pay attention to what I eat, drink, how I sleep and how much stress there is my life and I make regular adjustments (see my articles on well-being). So I don’t feel guilty when I take a day off watching Netflix because I know that, once I feel better, I will catch up on all the things I need to do.I had this little ball of fur to keep me compagny: …

Freddie Harrel by Karine Kong Photography

Style crush: denim & gold

Last week, Habitat kindly invited me to attend an event at the Hoxton hotel, where three lovely women I follow on Instagram: Alex, Erica and Freddie talked about their career, getting that work/balance right and making the leap to be full-time Bloggers. As I have longed to do a portrait session with Freddie & Alex since last year when I decided to focus on my portrait photography and more precisely women portraits, I didn’t think twice and flew to London. Being fashion Bloggers, the three of them work mostly from home (although Alex just started renting out a space while her flat is being renovated). You can see Erica’s family home in North Essex, Alex’s lovely flat and Freddie’s colourful flat on the Habitat website. It was an insightful evening and Freddie mentioned a couple of apps that you may want to try to improve your productivity. The first one was Spark by Readdle which I’ve heard before but generally speaking, I think I need to be told things three times to do something about it… Sparks enables you to sort out your in-box quickly …

#weekly fashion edit: leopard print coat + leather trousers

#weekly fashion edit

Every fall season, I lust after something in leopard print like this Clare V. clutch … Here I wear a pair of leopard heels from Isabel Marant which I grabbed in the sale two Summers ago and I also own a pair of leopard ankle boots from L.K. Bennett bought years ago, which haven’t aged. So my point is that whatever you invest in this season, leopard print is something that will come back EVERY season. This season, I bet on this beautiful leopard print coat (1) from Hush, which you can wear over a pair of skinny jeans, pleated skirt or leather trousers (5) It’s a total matter of personal choice (and age) but when it comes to wear leopard print, I try not to mix it with leather + high heels + red lipstick. For some reasons, I have this vision of Peggy Mitchell from Eastenders in my head, which will probably means nothing to those outside the UK but I’m very conscious of not looking like that when I wear leopard print. There is a …

Mila's bed makeover

Mila’s bedroom makeover

Bedroom makeover part 2: Following Mila’s desk makeover, I have now tackled the other side of her room to ensure her bed would be warm and comfortable for wintertime and feels a bit more luxurious. As you may remember, a few months ago, we installed double-glazing in most of the house, which has made our home a lot warmer, cosier and secure. Unlike the other three bedrooms in our home in France, Mila’s room is exposed north, which means it is the room that sees the least amount of sun. The fact that there is also a tank of water in the ground just outside the house probably doesn’t help as I suspect the humidity travels from the ground to the walls. I think we will need to drain the water but that’s a job we will tackle when Steve is back from London. Since Mila didn’t want to move out of her room, I focused on the inside to make her bedroom cosy, warm and comfortable. The first thing I did, was getting her a new …

Vipp kitchen in a Manhattan creative agency

The Vipp kitchen in a Manhattan creative agency

One brand dear to my heart is Danish design company Vipp. From their kitchen accessories, to their Award-Winning kitchen and the Vipp shelter which I would really love to visit once, everything is beautifully designed. In 2014, while I was still running the BODIE and FOU online concept store (now sold), we had the amazing opportunity to collaborate with Vipp to design an exclusive limited edition BODIE and FOU x Vipp bin which some of you may remember or even own. A similar collab’ had been done previously with Parisian concept store MERCI so for us, it was a big deal. The BODIE and FOU x Vipp bin was exclusively sold in their store in Copenhagen and in our shop and was even purchased by her H.R.H. Princess Marie of Denmark. I was there when her H.R.H purchased it and I asked her if we could do a photo for promotional purposes but she kindly declined ;-) #protocol It was an interesting & inspiring collaboration during which, we also launched our collection of BODIE and FOU prints (I …
